The Advantages To One Of Our Older Puppies

Many people have a vision in their minds of a little puppy joining their family. There is nothing wrong with this plan. Our litters are usually sold when quite young, but sometimes several females come in to their heat cycles at the same time, and that means several litters are born in a short time. When several puppies are born lose together, we often have older (3 month old and older) puppies available. What is the advantage of buying one of our older puppies?

Very young puppies are every oral. Everything goes in their mouth, including you and your children. The biggest challenge with a very young (7-12 week old) puppy is NOT potty training, it is teaching the puppy not to nip and bite. This has nothing to do with good or bad temperament. Puppies do not have hands, so they want to put every thing and every one i their mouth. Their teeth are as sharp as razor blades. Our older puppies have already been taught it is not polite to nip and bite.

Many breeders that have older puppies do not give the puppies the extra time, care, training and socialization that we do. I do not suggest an older puppy from a breeder that does not put in the extra effort that we do  All our puppies are handled and socialized every day from the time they are born. Our older puppies get INDIVIDUAL attention every day so they bond well to people. They also have exposure to puppies from the other litters, as well as several different adults.

Our older puppies are well started in their crate training, which is a big help in their potty and house training.

Our older puppies are already leash broken. They are taken out on leash one at a time often. This means your new puppy wll be able to join you on walks and outings and will walk nicely with you.

Older puppies have had several of the Puppy Shot series vaccinations are already done when you take him/her home. This not only saves you several hundreds of dollars in Veterinary bills, but it also means your puppy is much less likely to be vulnerable to the life threatening diseases of Parvo and Distemper. When you take home a young puppy, it must be kept quarantined at your home until all the puppy shots are completed. No puppy is fully protected until the puppy shots are all done. Older puppies already have completed their puppy shots and can start joining you and your family on your outings right away. Additional basic obedience training can be done on puppies 4 months old and older for additional fees.

We do not always have older puppies available, but when we do, YOU get a well started puppy, and save money in the long run.
